18th CENTURY ITALIAN SILVER LEAF MIRROR

This is a rare and precious deeply carved frame in lime wood with traces of silver gilt over red and raw umber bole with a gesso underlay.  The carving reveals floral and auricular motifs, notch patterning throughout, and a crown top.  The mirror, which is likely of the period, is very dark due to its age.  Condition is very good. The crown is somewhat fragile and has been reattached, which is noticeable only from the back side.  (FS)
