PAIR OF MERCURY HEAD FRAGMENTS

These are very cool. A small pair of skillfully carved heads in the likeness of the Roman messenger god, Mercury. Much of the gilding has worn off to reveal the gesso, wood and wormholes that declare their age. The carving shows fine attention to detail, such as in the feathered wings, tight locks of hair and classical facial features. (FS)
