This quintessential 18th Century antique Gustavian painted bench is strewn with finely carved details. The backrest and sides are composed of carved vertical slats that are framed within friezes of carved leaf tips. Each corner is marked by a square floral carving (patera) and topped by a finial. The impressive apron along the front and sides features a continuous band of stylized laurel leaves with further carved corner decoration. The seat lowers onto short, turned and fluted tapered legs.The seat lifts up for storage. The finish is dry scraped and partially restored in a wash of butter cream/white paint.
